The project concept emerged from an immersion in the site and the observation of the local vegetation.
Guarajuba, a stunning beach in Camaçari, Bahia, is defined by its constant sea breeze and warm climate year-round. In this setting, certain plants, such as coconut palms, adapt to the force of the winds by growing tall and slender, while others, like cashew trees, remain closer to the ground. The sandy terrain is covered by a dense weave of low-lying vegetation, forming intricate networks and rich entanglements that generate a wide range of textures and colors. The predominant vegetation is green, yet occasional accents of color stand out, such as the cabeça-de-frade cactus, which integrates harmoniously into the composition.
Inspired by this natural context, six guiding strategies were established for the project:
1. Valorization of local species: the design is conceived to highlight native vegetation, creating pathways that invite a contemplative experience of walking and engaging with nature.
2. Buildings in harmony with the surroundings: the architecture seeks a material expression that dissolves into and blends with the landscape through the use of local stone and natural tones, while its regular geometric lines provide a subtle contrast with the organic context.
3. Shaded and flexible pathways: connections between buildings are formed through lightweight, modular elements that allow for future expansion. Evoking the woven patterns of the existing ground vegetation, the biriba wood ceiling of these structures casts a dynamic interplay of light and shadow across the ground, shifting throughout the day.
4. Translucent and welcoming elements: cobogó walls run through various areas of the project and, with their sinuous forms, create more intimate and inviting spaces, fostering a pleasant experience for those moving through the site.
5. Touches of color and playfulness: inspired by the nuances of the vegetation, the furniture introduces accents of color and a relaxed atmosphere throughout the project.
6. Pools as small oases: with circular forms, the pools add moments of retreat and rest within the complex.
The combination of these elements, much like the layered structure of the local vegetation, brings the complexity and dynamism needed for the project to adapt to different user profiles. In this way, it offers spaces for both interaction and relaxation, responding flexibly to the varied interests and needs of future residents.
